This Lapis is from a mine in Afghanistan that seldom produces much material. But when they do get rough from this mine the Lapis is some of the best quality that there is. This quality of rough is almost always cut and never sold as rough on the market.

Shown left is a large piece that has been wet so that the color shows.

Above is a piece that has been cut/faced and polished.

This material is a very bright blue, most commercial Lapis is a darker navy blue and just does not have the vibrant blue this material has. Most of this material is hand sized pieces and easy to work. This is the type of rough that is used in 18K gold inlay work. This material, as you can see is shot through with Pyrite (gold colored veins) that are just gorgeous.

Note: There are some typical areas with some Quartz and some typical fractures that are common in Lapis.
